Peace Committee
• Monthly public educational forums intended to educate ourselves and our communities about our present violent practices, and propose non-violent alternatives to them.
•Weekly Vigil: Wednesdays 7:30-8:00am, corner of Central and E. Parkway.
• Peace Committee Meets First Thursday of the Month


Memphis Counter Recruitment
• Providing the information necessary for students and parents to moake informed decisions regarding military service.
• We are seeking to do this through reform in the administration of ASVAB testing, smarter decisions regarding military recruiters, improved opt-out procedures, and an end to mandatory ROTC at some of our high schools.
• Counter-Recruitment distributes literature outside of a different high school every Tuesday, 6:55am.


GrowMemphis
• Cooperative organic Community Gardens, that empower the development of low income communities by turning vacant lots into thriving middle of education, community, action and change.
• Orange Mound Community Garden broke ground Feb.26, 2005 at the corner of Douglass and Hamilton in collaboration between the Center, local schools, community groups, and neighbors.
• Be a part of the Movement turning vacant lots into organic gardens. Start one in your community, we’ll help.


Food not Bombs
• Serving free vegetarian meals to those in need using food that might normally be wasted.
Cooking Saturdays, 11am Galloway UMC; Serving Saturdays, 2pm Court Square
• The presence of Food Not Bombs groups is important. It is a near perfect pro-active statement on the issues currently at hand in the nation (violence, hate, militarism) and brings focus to local issues (hunger, poverty, homelessness) that are often ignored


Memphis Votes
• A campaign that works to register, educate, and empower the voters of Memphis.
• In a concerted effort to reach those people traditionally disenfranchised from the voting systems in Memphis we reached out at food pantries, churches, homeless shelters, mental health facilities
Democracy Project
• Seeking the national and local election reforms the community needs to participate in truly fair elections.
• Recently advocated for the purchase of a Voter Verifiable Paper Trail for all voting machines in Shelby County.


Memphis Living Wage Campaign
• Coalition effort of faith groups, community organizations, and labor unions calling on the city of Memphis to provide a Living Wage for its workers. We believe that no one should work full-time and still be poor at the end of the day.
• Organizing meetings the third Tuesday of every month, IBEW Union Hall.


Coalition Against Private Prisons (CAPP)

• County Commissioners have tried to contract out the important work of staffing our local prisons to the lowest bidder, creating the largest private prison in the country. We prevented that effort and are working towards positive alternatives to privatization in Shelby County.
• The Center is organizing a coalition involving Grassroots Leadership, AFSCME Local 1733, Rainbow/PUSH, Midsouth Interfaith Network for Economic Justice, Shelby County Corrections Officers, Women’s Action Coalition, Mid-South Interfaith Network, educators, faith leaders, artists, and activists.


Progressive Media Project
• Providing an alternative and progressive source of news and events for the Mid-South.
