The Peace Committee formed
as a result of the impending war on Iraq. Its purpose is to raise questions
about US foreign policy, the military industrial complex, and the use
of US. Military power in the world. We hold monthly forums that both
educate us and our community about our present violent practices and
propose nonviolent alternatives. We believe that all countries can
be both secure and peaceful. We would like to foster a vision of egalitarian
and peaceful international relations.
The Peace Committee seeks to accomplish these goals through two main
methods:
1. Public educational forums intended to educate ourselves and our communities
about our present violent practices, and propose non-violent alternatives to
them.
2. Nonviolent direct action in direct opposition to the destructive policies
of our government.
Our current focus is on the Militarization of our schools. If you would like
to get involved or learn more visit the Alternatives
to the Military Project.

End the Occupation Vigils • Every Wednesday
Every Wednsesday we stand in a public witness against war. Join us from
7:30-8:00am at the corner of Central and East Parkway as we stand in solidarity
with the people of Iraq nd call for an end to this horrific war.
Our statement on Iraq:
1. End the occupation now! U.S.
out of Iraq now! Stop the war against the people of Iraq. Bring the troops
home. We call for an immediate end to the U.S. and British sponsored
handover of Iraqi assets to corporations selected by any U.S. administration.
2. We propose an international presence, acceptable to the Iraqi citizenry
and committed to human rights including women's rights, should come together
with the Iraqi people to stabilize and rebuild Iraq. Such a presence would
have to be under the leadership of Iraqis committed to human rights.
3. We demand human rights for all the people of Iraq, including women,
ethnic and religious minorities, labor organizers and the poor. We advocate
people-to-people solidarity. We support the many groups who are campaigning
for a democratic Iraq with human rights for all. Such organizations must
be allowed to develop, organize, publish, speak, assemble, and protest.
